Chucho Loses to Roitman in Opening Match
(Buenos Aires, Argentina) Sergio Roitman, playing in the Buenos Aires tournament for the first time, defeated Chucho 7-6 (4), 6-1, in the closing match of the night.

But with the round robin format being used in Buenos Aires, Chucho still has a chance of advancing. If Diego Hartfield, who moved into the group after defeating Denis Germelmayr in Main Draw Elimination, defeats Roitman, and Acasuso defeats Hartfield, advancing to the quarter-finals becomes a matter of math based on sets and games won.

Good friends off the court, Chucho and Hartfield trained together as teenagers, but have never faced each other in an ATP, Challenger, or Futures event.

Chucho Back in Action at Copa Telmex
(Buenos Aires, Argentina) Chucho returns to tournament play as the number eight seed at this week's Copa Telmex in his hometown of Buenos Aires. The 2001 edition of the tournament was Acasuso's first ATP event, and he made the most of the opportunity by reaching the finals before losing to Gustavo Kuerten, then ranked second in the world.

This year's tournament is one of twelve testing various round robin formats. Buenos Aires will feature the thirty-two-player hybrid format, which puts the top sixteen players directly into the round robin draw, with the remaining sixteen players playing a "main draw elimination" round; the winners of those matches will fill the open spots in the round robin draw. The round robin draw is divided into eight groups of three players each: a seeded player, one of the remaining eight "direct-to-round-robin" players, and a main draw elimination player.

Chucho opens against fellow-Argentine Sergio Roitman, in what will be the first ATP meeting between the two. Roitman is currently ranked 77th and most recently reached the quarter-finals at Vina del Mar. The third player in the group will be the winner of the MDE match between Diego Hartfield and a qualifier.

Cañas defeated Alexander Peya, 4-6, 6-1. 6-4, in the dead rubber to complete Argentina's 4-1 victory.

Mancini Names Squad for Davis Cup Opener
With Juan Ignacio Chela on leave from Davis Cup to concentrate on his professional career, Alberto Mancino's Davis Cup squad was already headed for a new look in 2007. David Nalbandian - already considering limiting Davis Cup play this year - had the decision made for him as he struggles with a knee injury. And most recently, Agustin Calleri has said he was unsure of playing in the tie against Austria due to a slight injury. This leaves only Chucho from the group that reached the finals in 2006.

Guillermo Cañas and Juan Martin Del Potro, a Davis Cup rookie but possessing a big game and preferring faster courts, seemed likely candidates for two of the three open spots, and Mancini has confirmed their place. For the final position, Mancini selected doubles specialist Sebastian Prieto. Prieto has not played Davis Cup since 1999, but has teamed frequently with Chucho - the pair won the doubles at 2006 Vina del Mar - and is currently ranked 31st in the Stanford ATP Doubles Rankings.
